• Construct an artificial random process which contains all the properties needed to solve a certain problem

• e.g. Look for the value of a quantity x that can be the expected value of a certain random variable, M[x]. We can determine approximately x ``measuring'' x in a series of N independent tests. x1,x2,...,xN and computing the average

• Virtually any problem can be solved by MC Method « depending on our ability to formulate the random process which can lead the right answer. The problem itself does not have to be stochastic in nature
