I am an Associate Professor of Physics at the Department of Mathematical Physics of the Physics Institute , University of São Paulo .

Obs.: during 2010 and 2011 I will not be at USP: I will be in the U.S.A. for a sabbatical period, at the Universities of Princeton and Pennsylvania.

Research

I stick to Cosmology:

For a general introduction to Cosmology, start with NASA's website, or try Douglas Scott's website.

Here is some material more on the line of astrophysics.

To properly understand the above, you will need to know some General Relativity .

Some of my research areas:

Structure formation in the Universe, in particular the way in which galaxy clusters are formed.

I also have a keen interest in the cosmic microwave background radiation (see also Wayne Hu's site ) -- the field where R. Mather and G. Smoot got their Nobel Prizes in Physics in 2006.

The nature of dark energy (this link in Portuguese) , or, how some like to call it, quintessence .

Some collaborators and research projects, grants etc.

I am a member of the National Science Institute for Astrophysics , which is a national excellency project to insert the brazillian astronomical (and astrophysical) communities in future large telescopes and surveys. I am a member of the Scientific Committee of that institute.

I have a grant together with Jose Ademir S. de Lima, of the Dep. of Astronomy , and with Rogerio Rosenfeld, of the Institute for Theoretical Physics .

I also collaborate frequently with people from the Institut D'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) , CBPF (Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas) , Federal University of Rio de Janeiro , and the National Space Research Institute, INPE .
