We are very pleased to announce that, as part of the world-wide commemorations of
the centennial of Einstein's Annus Mirabilis, the international
conference 100 years of relativity will be held on August 22-24 in São Paulo,
Brazil, to highlight Einstein's most
cherished legacy: the modern theories of Relativity and Cosmology.
Never has this legacy been so evident to everyone, scientists as well as
the general public, as in recent years,
with dramatic new observations of the Cosmos firing up our curiosity.
This conference has two goals: first, to provide an opportunity for
high-level scientific discussions and the presentation of new results, and
second, to call the attention of a wide spectrum of the general public
to the exciting new
developments in our current understanding the Universe. Hence, besides
the plenary and paralell sessions during morning and afternoons, public
lectures will be delivered on the evenings of Aug. 22-24.
The main thrust of the conference is
classical and quantum
aspects of Gravitation and Cosmology - theoretical and experimental.
A non-exhaustive list of subjects includes
black holes, quantum and semi-classical gravity,
exact solutions of GR, gravity waves, cosmic microwave background, structure
formation, weak/strong lensing, gamma-ray bursts, dark matter and dark energy.
We will hold parallel sessions on the sub-topics:
Dark Energy and Dark Matter
Gravitational Waves
Semiclassical Gravity and QFT in Curved Spacetimes
Observations: Experimental Cosmology
Topics in Modern Cosmology
Black Holes
Astroparticle Physics
Classical General Relativity
Quantum Gravity, Strings and Branes
The conference will be held in MASP (Sao Paulo Art Museum), an architectural
landmark in the cultural and financial center of Sao Paulo, with
a dazzling choice of gastronomic, cultural and entertainment opportunities
nearby.
Some paralell sessions will be held at IFT (Theoretical Physics Institute),
which can be reached from MASP by a 10min footwalk.
It is with great pleasure that we invite everyone to
participate in this Conference.
